Chapter 2.6
previous:~
He flips open the cover, a small flame alights as he presses the notch...
...He holds the two books together, placed them on a patch of grass nearby. A small flame in his hands. He is determined. 'Sorry, dad. This is the best solution I have.' He took a few minutes to recompose.
The two books came in contact. The cover embellishments of the books glow in a pale light. Leon's slightly yellow, while Dakara's in bluish hues. Pages started flipping wildly, nearly tearing their fragile papers inside. Both books seem to be caught up in some form of inter-connection---they look as if they were alive, interacting with each other in a foreign language. Leon, bewildered, changes his mind. He took two steps back.
He cannot predict what was going to happen next. In a split second, everything can go wrong. But he remains there, not even budging an inch. He wanted to know more. 'What if anything goes wrong?' He thought for a moment. 'Then I shall be buried with the secret! Nobody will know of the book's existence.' He found it as a form of an escapism as well. How will he survive with nobody to count on? He'd rather bury himself in the grave as a compensation towards Dakara's death! After all, he has the most responsibility on behalf of her death.

He waits. And then the strangest thing happened. The books, still luminescent in the sunrise, closes immediately after flipping to the last page, starts to float, hanging side by side in mid-air! 'Goodness gracious, flying books!' There it was higher, and higher, approximately 10 feet of the ground, releasing an eerie glow.
Up. Up, up.
He rubs his eyes to see if he is daydreaming. How he wished all of this will end as soon as he opens his eyes again. Then, everything will be fine. Dakara would be his darling again, alive and sound. He will continue his avarage teenage life. He will promise to not whine about Chemistry again -- now or ever-- not to mention his worst enemy, Jeremy-the-Bully if all this would just dissapear. But this sort of moment are moments when people try to console themselves, denying reality, but are made to face them even harder in their faces.

For a while, the books remain still in mid air. Leon suspects that they are scanning the area, but he cannot conclude what are they scanning for. 'An object? Somebody? Another book perhaps?' he shuddered. The books finally confirm on a target.
Down, down, down.
Both books shift, landing directly on top of Dakara -- a few inches before they manage to get in skin contact with her. 'What's happening? Surely they are not threatening to harm Dakara's body?' He became suspicious. He could watched no longer, and tried to interfere with the process.

He reached out to grab her, but to no avail. She is protected by a force field, similar to the ones he encountered and experienced during his first contact with his book. Nothing outside can reach her. She cannot reach anything outside either. Not that it matters if she cannot reach outside, she's dead anyway. Leon is taken aback, clueless on what to do next. He must protect his friend, even if it is just a dead corpse. He frets wildly, uncontrollably. But the more he tried to interfere, the thicker the force field expanded. 'I give up. Maybe I should just sit and wait.'
As soon as he finishes his sentence, the force field breaks off, giving a strong blow in his face. He was flunged a few metres away. It took him quite some time before he got up onto his feet again. He could picture stars above his head, like the characters he'd seen in Looney Tunes. Anxious over Dakara, he ran towards her. The force field disengage. There the two books lay, on the ground, beside her.

He found her, still motionless. He runs his fingers down her blonde silky hair. The feel of the soft hair, like pure silk. His tears drenches her hair, making it slightly wet. He could not comprehend what had happen during the period of time when the force field was engage. But it seems, that there were no changes.
Suddenly, he felt her eyelashes flutter. "Could it be? Of course not, she had been long dead! It must be hallucinations" he mutters.
