6 Books_truth or lies?

Chapter1.3

Leon stared in astonishment at the letter. He pondered hard on the meaning of his father's words.

A destiny? That would be insane, absurd, unrealistic. Nobody believes in destinies now. Besides, his dad could have just been mentally unsound when he wrote this letter. Who knows, maybe dad was unable to accept his death, therefore writing in such bizarre manner?

But then again, why would dad want to write such a thing?, he thought. It did not make any sense to Leon. Although he did not have much memories of his late father, he knew deep in his heart that his father was a rational man, and never tolerate lies. And what would it mean by the Book of Light? A folk myth?

Supposedly if his father was telling him the truth? Then what? He will have to guard a stupid book for the rest of his life, risking himself into danger whatsoever, not knowing what will be in store for him after that? Besides, Leon  cannot bear to even hurt a fly. And now, he is told to finish off other people just because they own a  book? It's ridiculous.

By the way, what Is the motive of guarding the book anyway? It look pretty much worn out and old. Nobody would want to steal that. He could put it in the middle of the school hall, and still find it lying there after a few days! Except, the school janitor might just feel a tad annoyed and dispose it into the nearest bin! Chuckling softly to himself, he resume to a train of thoughts again, in daze.

A few soft knocks rap the door.

"I came to see you," said Dakara in a low tone. " May I come in?"

Leon rush to the door, unlocked the bolt.

"Come in. Anything?"

"Nothing. Just wanted to know if you're okay." she replied. "I did not take my parents' death as lightly as you did. What's wrong?"

"Neh, I do not even know my father, in a way. He rarely appears in my life." He conveniently piled a stack of books on top of the one his father gave him.

" Are you hiding something?" She lean to see.

"Hiding what? Nonsense. You know I NEVER keep secrets from you." He puts on an innocent face, hoping she will not suspect, but to no avail.

" I know that face of yours," she added. "Something here is fishy."

She drew closer to the pile of books. She pushed them aside, Leon's knees shaking nervously . His heartbeat beat several times faster, a cold sweat broke. He tried to stop Dakara, but it's too late! To his bewilderment, nothing was there! Dakara was determined to find out his secrets, but she found nothing after a gruesome hunt in his room. Exhausted, she finally gave up.

"I told you there was nothing." Leon mumbled, annoying Dakara. She is furious. He looked on as she stormed out of his room filled with rage.

Phew, that was close. I wonder where did that silly book go? He turn around. Lo and behold, sitting in the middle of his bed was the book itself! Strange, I do not remember putting it there though, he thought, puzzled. He went over, trying to figure out what had just happened. He went over to the opened package.

Suddenly, his surroundings turned dim. No, it cannot be the sunset, for it is still bright outside the window, and yet, the room started to darken by itself. Leon reach out his hand. The room seem to be enclosed in a realm which acts as a force field, trapping him in it. He feels the force field's walls--it acts as a separator between the reality and the boundaries of the book. He examine every inch of his room. The clock stopped ticking, the leaves outside the window did not rustle, even the crows stood still. Everything in motion outside the boundaries seem to just stop, against time.

What is happening? How can it be that I can still move whereas things outside seem to stop? And then, the book began to open, and started to flip to the last page. The massive turbulence nearly fling Leon aside. Finally, it stopped. Everything was calm again. Leon took a long glimpse at the book, it seems like it is trying to communicate with him. He stared at the page for a long time--BLANK! But why? Just as he was doubting, words start appearing gradually...

Leon freeze in shock. He couldn't believe his eyes. It cannot be her, it just cannot be... ...
