Chapter 2.4
Any last words??" Dakara questioned with a wide grin on her face. "Too late!!"
She waved her hand downwards. The Leader of the pack started picking up its pace. And soon its members starts to caving in towards Leon.
Too fast. There's no way I can wrestle with this... this gigantic-- BEAST. It's impossible. There are just too many of them! Think, Leon. He tried brainstorming, but at this point, time was the only obstacle. His gray matter refused to start, it has partially given up. There is certainly no way of escape. His fate is, sadly to say, DOOMED. He closed his eyes tightly. He always thought that even if his journey had ended, it will end peacefully. He could picture his death scene lying on his bed, whispering last words to his children, if he had any. And his funeral ceremony filled with white lilies and an engraved gravestone with his name on it. Now, he could only wish that his death will not be a gruesome one. Having his organs dissected by a pair of animal claws were strictly not on the list. God knows where the leftovers of his flesh or bones will end up! Well, obviously, assuming the size of this pack, there wouldn't even be leftovers! At least, at least, he will die quick and sleek.
His emotions started to kick in, cold sweat breaking at the forehead, trickling down his neck. He had no choice but to accept fate. 'Guardian, you say?? I don't even know my powers. Some guardian who cannot defend himself.' His faith rattles uncontrollably, this is it. "I'm finished", he concluded.
The hounds kick into action immediately. Pouncing, grinding teeth, showcasing claws. They're in for the kill. Just before Leon could imagine the hot breath and feel the heat from the hounds and the tearing of his flesh. Something happen. Something that had happened before. His amulet started to glow.
It started to glow, then a strong, white light pierced through the darkness. A bright light that he recalled he encounter during his mother's death. The forest alighted. The dogs instantly leap backwards, few metres away from Leon, obviously curious and afraid. However, the temptation to come back for flesh is too much to resist. Leon freaked. This would be their second attempt. And he would be quite sure that the light trick wouldn't work on them this time.
Come on. He clutch tightly onto his amulet, rattled it vigorously. The hounds are closing in again.
"That trick of yours wouldn't work on my hounds this time, just give up!" She conveniently attacks his psychology state.
Leon still clinging onto the sole chance of survival he has. If the amulet was trying to protect him just now, he knew it would do it again.
The amulet seem to sense the danger erupting. It shot out another ray of light, and a second, and a third. Light pierced through the darkness once again, but this time the light expanded, gradually, as the blazing sun. Easily embraced Leon within it. Leon felt an instant numbness. The light was so glaring that he couldn't see what was happening outside. His conscious gave in. He blacks out again.
